Guilty Pleasures | Birchbox ~ Ipsy ~ Dollar Shave Club Review

As every mom knows, time is of the essence.  Especially when you have 1 1/2 twin girls demanding your attention.  Beauty routines are essential. Last thing I want to do is show up to work looking half asleep with Cheerios stuck in my hair. I have grown accustomed to the products I use.  Simple products, reasonably priced.  Honestly, I'm too cheap to splurge on the high end stuff.  Which is how I came across two subscriptions that allow me to sample products before buying it full-size or just using it up until the next product arrives.

The first is Birchbox.  I've been subscribing to Birchbox for over a year.  I love it.  I mean, who doesn't like getting a goodie box in the mail once a month?    Some boxes include samples for skincare, makeup, perfume, nail polish and hair products.  The shampoo and conditioners are perfect to save for traveling.  The box is great to use later on as a gift box of some sort.

A couple of weeks ago,  Birchbox sent out an email allowing subscribers to choose what theme they wanted for their January box.  You could choose between two options or keep your box a surprise.  I went with the Tone it Up Gym Bag Beauty Essentials box.  For the life of me, I cannot remember what the other one was. Sorry. I chose the Tone it Up box because I workout a lot and a box geared to helping me not be such a sweaty gross mess right after, allows me to run a few errands before heading home to the babes.
Anyway, here is what came in my January box.

1.  Aquareveal Satin Bright Soft Water Peel for Face | Full-size, $49
I used to be an avid goer of monthly facials but, that time is long gone.  So whenever I get something that resembles some sort of spa day, I'm all in.  This exfoliant was not abrasive at all and it made my face feel super soft. It was unscented which is always nice.
2.  Coastal Scents Revealed Palette | Full-size, $19.95
The sample palette I received had four colors that were neutral and metallic.
I haven't had a chance to try this out yet because, well, it is winter time.  And although our seasons tend to feel like summer year-round,  I just don't think I'm getting enough sun exposure to really find a purpose to use this just yet.  I'll be saving this one to put in my beach bag come summer.
4.  Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk | Full-size, $19.50
I have actually received something similar to this product in a previous box and absolutely fell in love with it.  My hair is extremely long and washing it is such a tedious task. This dry shampoo allows me to go 2 maybe 3 days before having to wash it.  Love, love, love this stuff.  I will definitely buy a full-size bottle as soon as I run out.
5.  Whish Three Whishes Body Butter - Lavender | Full-size, $24
This stuff is amazing.  My hands felt smooth instantly after applying a small amount.  You know how sometimes when you put lotion on and you rub it on your hands and it feels like you need to wipe some off on a towel because your skin isn't absorbing it and you feel like a greasy, over-scented mess?  Well, this one doesn't do that.  It does the very opposite.  Due to the cold weather, I have been suffering from cracked-hands syndrome and I seriously think I found the cure.  I'm not big on scented lotion, but this one wasn't too bad.  It did not have a strong lingering smell.  They actually offer it in a coconut scent, which I would buy in a heartbeat.  I love everything coconut.

If you decide to give it a try,  click here  It's only $10 dollars a month and you can cancel anytime.  Once you sign up, you can refer friends and earn points which later convert to dollars.  You can also earn points for reviewing each of the products you receive.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I heard about Ipsy through a posting on Facebook and I decided to try it out because each month comes in an adorable make-up bag.  Isn't that reason enough?  It even arrived in a cute hot pink mailer.  I was pleasantly surprised with what I received.  I was half expecting a cheapy bag that one would find at the dollar store.  But this makeup bag was super cute and was made of a really thick, sturdy material.  I loved the colors as well.  One side was white, while the other side was a royal blue.
Very winterish if you ask me.
Here is what I received this month.
1. Bella Pierre Shimmer Powder in Celebration | Full-size, $14.99
This shimmer powder is G O L D.  Umm... can you say Awesome!?!  Gold has totally creeped its way into my life.  I never thought I would like gold.  I was always a white-gold/silver type of gal, but lately, the trend has sucked me in.  I totally jumped on the bandwagon.  I have no idea how or when I am going to use this but, where there is a will, there is a way.  True story.
2. Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush |  $9.99
I was very excited to add this to my collection of brushes, considering it consists of $1 make-brushes by E.L.F.  Don't get me wrong, I love my E.L.F. brushes.  They work great.  But this one was P i n k!  It really made my brush set pop with some color.  Not to mention it was pretty thick and worked really well applying my eyeshadow.
3. La Fresh Eco-Beauty Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer | Full-size, $40.00
I just love the name of this moisturizer.  My day may actually "be good" from using it.  I will update later once I have tried it.  I usually like to save these types of samples for traveling.  Cause it happens so often. Ha!
4.  Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow   | $14.00/palette
The shade I received is a lot lighter than I normally use.  Black.  Lots of black eyeshadow.  But it works great as a base.  It does brighten up the eyes a little.
5.  Probelle Into the Blue Nail Lacquer | Full-size, $6.00
The bottle I received was actually a full-sized bottle.  It was not a sample size.  I love the color because it is not something I would have bought on my own.  I am actually excited to try it out.  I plan on using it with some silver glitter polish to really make it a wintery look.
With the exception of the moisturizer,  the products were bigger than a normal sample size.  Getting the brush alone was the cost of the subscription.  I'd say it was totally worth it.
If you want to try Ipsy out click here.  This subscription is $10 + tax a month.  You fill out a beauty quiz so they can get a better understanding of what you are looking for.  You can also earn points through referrals which you can use to redeem for products on their site.  As with Birchbox, you can earn points for reviewing sample products you receive.  It is my understanding that the more you review your products, the better idea the company gets of your likes and dislikes.  You basically have the power to control what you do or do not like receiving.
I couldn't leave the hubby out, so I went and signed him up for his own subscription with Dollar Shave Club.  Although, I really love the 5 o'clock shadow, it's just so rugged and hot s w o o n ,  I don't think the girls, and by girls I mean Lily & Mia of course,  appreciate it as much when he goes in for the smooches.
What is great about this subscription is that it ships as soon as you place your order.  There is no wait period like the other subscription boxes since it is not a variety of samples.  It is just one simple order.  There are 3 types of razors to choose from.
1.  The Humble Twin - $1/month + $2 s&h
2 stainless steel blades
5 cartridges/month
2.  The 4X - $6/month ships free
4 stainless steel blades
4 cartridges/month
3.  The Executive - $9/month ships free
6 stainless steel blades
4 cartridges/month
He opted for the Executive Razors because well, Go Big or Go Home right? Plus, he gets his 5 o'clock shadow 20 minutes after shaving.  Okay, not really.  Seems like it.   In the first shipment, it came with the handle and 4 razors and every shipment after is just 4 razor replacements.  I splurged go me! and bought him the Dr. Carver's Shave Butter as well. $8 for a one time add on.  You can add it to your future boxes as needed.
Believe me, after spending $15 dollars for a 3 pack of razors at Target, your man will thank you.  Ladies, you can use them too.  Although, you can probably get away with using the 4X.
 Sign-up here. Don't be shy.
Okay, so I tried asking him his thoughts on the razors and this is what I got.  "Closer shave.  Smoother.  I don't use the same razor as long as I did with the other ones." A man of few words. A very rare occasion by the way.  Being the way that I am, I pried a little more and this was the outcome, more or less.
When he first tried the razors, he used the shave butter as well.  It was difficult to tell whether the razors were really good or if it was because of the shave butter.  So the next day, yes, he has to shave every single day, well, except for the weekends, he grows a full beard. Kidding.  Not really, he opted to use his regular shaving cream along with the new razor.  The razor was just as amazing as the first time but, he'll continue to use the shave butter because, well, butter makes everything better. Butter up that bacon-Homer
Well,  I hope that my guilty pleasures become some of your own.  It's like Christmas in your mail box once a month.  Keep it all or save them for gifts.  Whatever you choose, have fun and enjoy!
If you subscribe to something you believe is worth trying, feel free to email me at aperine04@gmail.com.  I would love to hear about it.
