Transitions in life are always tricky. It takes a period of adjustment. It takes a sense of routine to sort of become
accustomed to the new ways. We have been
in our new home for a little over a week now and things have just started to
click.
Before we moved in,
we would always drop by “the house” and do some work while the girls ran
around. Then we would gather our things
and go back to Papa and Gawa’s house. It
took a couple of days for these girls to realize that this was their house now. This was home.
The transition into their new beds was not easy. These girls were used to sleeping on a full
size bed together and sometimes with mommy.
Two toddler beds were on the opposite end of the spectrum. The first couple of nights they would scream
and cry when I laid them down. So I
would lay with one while holding the other.
Then last night, it just clicked.
I said it’s time for bed. I
handed them their bottles and that was it.
Really? That easy?!? I can only
hope that that’s how it will be from now on.
Although, Mia woke up in the middle of the night and crawled into bed
and literally kicked Kurt off of it.
She’s still snuggled in there while Lily has stayed in her bed all night
long.
School has also been an adjustment for these girls. They cry when I drop them off but according
to their teachers, they are fine the rest of the day. Mia is having a little trouble keeping her
shoes and socks on. She is my little Tom
Sawyer I guess. Mia has also been quite
the chatterbox since starting school.
She is saying more and more phrases than she did before. Lily is even starting to express herself
more. Words haven’t made its way to her
lips but the jibber jabber that Mia started to do before she talked is all
there. I also noticed how much more open
they are to friends and family. Lily
used to hug my hip and not leave my side whenever we would be around
people. Last Friday, we went over to a
friend of ours and the girls were running around so carefree. Passing out hugs and kisses and sharing tons
of laughs and giggles.
On the non-school days, they hang out at Gawa’s house. Gawa has a routine with the girls that she
sticks to and they follow it pretty well.
They even get special treats with Gawa.
Last week, she took them to get some frozen yogurt and I could tell that
they had an enjoyable day.
Mornings are not as crazy and hectic as I would have
imagined. I get up at 6am. I have one (maybe two) cups of coffee before
anyone gets up. I take this time to get
lunches and backpacks ready. I get
myself ready and then around 7am, the girls are up and ready to run. Kurt helps with diaper changes and
occasionally, we have to chase one (Mia) around the house because she thinks it
is hilarious when mom and dad want to dress her. She yells, “run!” and jets off. We’re out the door by 8am and all is
well.
I love this picture that one of my BFF's was able to capture. Craziness between these to ladies.
Sister snuggles are always the best.
We always cut through Mama's class so they can see where I work. Plus, it is a way for me to avoid the playground so we don't get stuck for another hour.
Snack time and cartoons are the perfect way to wind down after a long day.
My parent's dropped off the girls after they spent the previous day and night with them. And they also brought over some lunch. Yum!
Art Activities to pass the time.
With Love,
Angela
